چکیده

Do final state interactions obscure short range correlation effects in quasielastic A(e, e ′ p) scattering ? A b s t r a c t Are short range correlations in the ground state of the target nucleus (initial state correlations ISC) observable in experiments on quasielastic A(e, e ′ p) scattering at large missing momentum p m ? Will the missing momentum spectrum observed at CEBAF be overwhelmed by final state interactions of the struck proton? Taking the 4 He nucleus with a realistic model wave function for a testing ground, we present a full calculation of the missing momentum distribution in inclusive 4 He(e, e ′ p) scattering. We find a complex interplay and strong quantum-mechanical interference of FSI and ISC contributions to scattering at large p m , with drastic change of the interference pattern from the (anti)parallel to transverse kinematics. We show that in all the kinematical conditions, for missing momenta p m ∼ > 1 fm −1 , quasielastic scattering is dominated by FSI effects and the sensitivity to details of the nuclear ground state is lost. The origin of the FSI dominance is well understood and can be traced back to the anisotropic behaviour of FSI which is long ranged in the longitudinal direction and short ranged in the transverse direction in the opposite to the short ranged ground state correlations.

We develop the Glauber theory description of initial-and final-state interactions (IFSI) in quasielastic A(p, 2p) scattering. We study the IFSI-distortion effects both for the inclusive and exclusive conditions. In inclusive reaction the important new effect is an interaction between the two sets of the trajectories which enter the calculation of IFSI-distorted one-body density matrix for inclu...

Simple classification of final state interaction effects in 4 He ( e , e ′ p ) scattering

A b s t r a c t The radius of interaction between the struck proton and spectator nucleons is close to the radius of short-distance two-nucleon correlations in nuclear matter, which makes final state interaction (FSI) an important background to production of protons with large missing momentum. We present a simple classification of the dominant FSI effects in 4 He(e, e ′ p) scattering and ident...

Color transparency is the vanishing of initial and final state interactions, predicted by QCD to occur in high momentum transfer quasielastic nuclear reactions. For specific reactions involving nucleons, the initial and final state interactions are expected to be dominated by exchanges of pions. We argue that these interactions are also suppressed in high momentum transfer nuclear quasielastic ...

A relativistic finite nucleus calculation using a Dirac optical potential is used to investigate the importance of final state interactions [FSI] at large momentum transfers in inclusive quasielastic electronuclear reactions. The optical potential is derived from first-order multiple scattering theory and then is used to calculate the FSI in a nonspectral Green's function doorway approach. At i...

Probing short-range nucleon correlations in high-energy hard quasielastic pd reactions.

We show that the strong dependence of the amplitude for NN hard scattering on the collision energy can be used to magnify the effects of short range nucleon correlations in quasielastic pd scattering. Under specific kinematical conditions the effect of initial and final state interactions can be accounted for by rescaling the cross section calculated within the plane wave impulse approximation....
